M. A. Hashem began his entrepreneurial journey
in 1959 through the tobacco trading business.
With determination, discipline, and a long-term
vision for industrial growth, he established
M/S. Hashem Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd. in the
early seventies in Chittagong.
At a crucial period in the nation’s development,
he played an important role in the import and
distribution of essential commodities that
supported the country’s growing economy.
Guided by a vision to strengthen local industry,
he later focused on domestic manufacturing to
reduce dependency on imports and encourage
quality local production.
From that vision emerged Partex Group — an
organization that has continued to grow through
diversified manufacturing and service-oriented
enterprises.
Widely respected as a self-made entrepreneur,
he was also among the pioneers in the development
of Bangladesh’s private banking and insurance
sectors, with founding involvement in institutions
including The City Bank Limited, UCBL, and
Janata Insurance Ltd.
Beyond business, his commitment to society
extended into education, healthcare, and
community welfare initiatives, leaving behind
a lasting legacy that continues to inspire
future generations.
